Pay: $32.00 – $37.00 per hour

Location
Green Bay and Appleton area (primary work will be in southeastern Wisconsin).
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled directional drill operator to join our fiber‑construction team. You will be responsible for safely installing underground conduit and fiber using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment. Ideal candidates have hands‑on experience with directional drilling and are committed to safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate horizontal directional drills to install fiber conduit and cable .
- Perform site preparation tasks such as digging bore pits, core drilling, potholing and backfilling .
- Drive/tow the drill and support equipment to job sites .
- Confirm bore paths with locators, set up water tanks and grounding, drill according to the predetermined path, and pull back conduit or product .
- Assist with setting hand holes, tying in conduit and fiber pulls, and completing splicing or tie‑in work .
- Conduct pre‑job site surveys to ensure all utilities are located and potholed .
- Perform routine maintenance on trucks and drilling machines, including pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections and winterizing equipment .
- Communicate daily progress and safety performance to the supervisor and maintain accurate paperwork (bore logs, maintenance reports, etc.) .
- Follow all safety procedures and traffic laws, strive for quality workmanship and meet production goals .
Required Qualifications:
- Valid l Driver’s License and clean driving record
- At least 1–2 years of experience operating horizontal directional drills or similar heavy equipment .
- Knowledge of underground utilities and DOT regulations for vehicle and operator qualifications .
- Ability to read construction plans and adhere to company and client specifications .
- Proven commitment to job‑site safety, including successful completion of pre‑employment drug/alcohol screening and physical .
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks (lifting up to ~50 lbs., standing, bending, etc.) .
- Ability to work long hours or weekends and travel to job sites as needed .
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with fiber‑optic construction, including pulling fiber through conduit and setting vaults or hand holes.
- Experience training or supervising crew members.
- Additional safety certifications (OSHA 10, CPR, etc.).
